Daniel Smith Primatek Watercolor Swatches - Oddly Satisfying

You all seemed to really enjoy the swatch video I shared last month, so I was excited to dive into another one as a “bonus” video this month. This one is a little smaller, but one of the first watercolor sets that I decided to splurge on and use as an excuse to explore beyond the pigments in my typical palette.

The Daniel Smith Primatek collection is unique in the fact that instead of having a pigment code, these colors are straight from minerals (often semi-precious) that have been ground up and added to gum arabic to create the beautiful pigments that I’m sharing with you today.

Many of these colors have become staples in my collection. While I don’t typically gravitate towards granular pigments (no pun intended), I really enjoy the rich quality of these watercolor paints and the variety that they added to my collection. Even so, as I mention in the video, if I want a smooth effect over a larger surface area, I typically gravitate away from these specific colors to some that are more finely milled.

Current favorites within this collection (for me) are: Jadeite Genuine, Mayan Blue Genuine and Hematite Genuine

Let me know which pigment is your favorite and what you are most excited to start using!
